This still is from my latest video, "Personhood", the second edition of #MemoryoftheUniverse, a series of 3D animations of speculative fiction combined with real life events. The series also includes performative presentations and multimedia performances.

Palestine was on my mind when I made the scene in this still. Palestine's historic artifacts are being plundered via secret military archaeology, and its memories are being obliterated by such plans as building the “Museum of Tolerance” on a historic Muslim cemetery in Jerusalem.

The sunflower, a plant native to the Americas, is a recurring motif in my work. One of the fastest growing plants, tall and erect sun-like sunflowers reach for and face the sun, and are said to symbolize nonconformity, strength, vitality, loyalty, love, beauty, happiness and enlightenment. Sunflowers are also a source of food and sustenance. Their color yellow is associated with the intellect, perception and self-awareness, and orange is linked with creativity, expansion, self-acceptance and confidence.

I imagine a better collective future for our planet by us humans making a conscious decision to be truth-tellers and nonconformists, with love and self-awareness, and by learning history and arming ourselves with knowledge to fight the oppressors and colonizers who thrive and survive via erasing the memories of those that they oppress. Don't wait to speak out only when you feel safety in numbers. We are willing enablers of our oppressors when we succumb to fear.
